Plendify is the leading Pan African Online Wholesale Marketplace for businesses. Our focus is to help small and medium-sized businesses in Pan-Africa scale their digital sales worldwide. We help you connect with new businesses and consumers so that you can increase your sales and access new countries.
The Head of Engineering will also be responsible for leading and executing alongside our engineering team. You will help design, develop, maintain and scale a world class platform (mobile and web apps) that supports the business goals and objectives of the company. This will require you to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, Client Success, Marketing, Sales, Creative and Leadership teams to identify and execute on opportunities to drive growth. As the technical lead, you will oversee the company’s technical team and all projects they undertake, write progress reports, identify risks, resolve issues, and manage our ISO 27001 compliance. You should be a natural leader with strong team leadership abilities and be able to inspire your team and the organization to reach their goals.
This role will report to the CEO.

Responsibility and Duties
Determining project requirements and developing work schedules for the team.
A good understanding of programing languages (PHP, JAVA, Node JS).
Working knowledge of AWS and GCP cloud architecture.
Ability to develop and architect systems from project requirements.
Monitor and develop technology spending for the company.
Liaising with team members, management, and clients to ensure projects are completed to standard.
Reporting directly to the CEO on engineering team progress
Collaborate and assign tasks using agile methodologies.
Manage and assign work schedules for team members.
Identifying risks and forming contingency plans as soon as possible.
Keeping up to date with industry trends and developments.
Updating work schedules and performing troubleshooting as required.
Motivating staff and creating a space where they can ask questions and voice their concerns.
Writing progress reports and updating the management.
Interview, hire, manage, and develop a team of driven, highly engaged individuals to manage engineering team.
Requirements and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in fast growing start-up, technology, B2B, eCommerce and/or SAAS with a deep focus on scaling platforms and technology solutions.
2+ years of leadership experience.
Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
Relevant Management certification will be and advantageous.
Experience in a similar role would be advantageous.
Excellent technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
Willingness to build professional relationships with staff and clients.
Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
Both a strong strategic thinker, with the ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data/insights into strong technology strategies, and a highly organized “doer,” with a data-driven mentality and a bias towards action.
Top-notch analytical skills with a proven ability to work through data to find opportunities and actionable insights that are not readily apparent and clearly communicate them to a diverse set of stakeholders in a way they will understand.
Proven ability to leverage multiple data sources to develop hypotheses and execute rapid test and learn strategies.
Experience building, leading, and managing a team of direct reports.
Experience with fast growing companies highly preferred.
